Most of our 60,000-plus images sort themselves politely. Cowboys go with cowboys, botanicals with botanicals, and the Grand Canyon knows exactly where it belongs. But every so often, an image lands on the desk, and we’re left scratching our heads. A giant potato riding a toy tractor. A hearse with tail fins. What Makes a Picture Nutty? 

The Nutty Pictures collection is home to images that are hard to categorize but unmistakably us. None of these were ironic when they were made. The laugh is never at the expense of the people (or puppies) in the pictures. The joke is that time passed, and now we get to see all that earnestness with fresh eyes. 

That is the appeal. These images don't need a caption to be funny, and they don't need a holiday to be relevant. They are a little strange, a little sweet, and entirely human (or canine).
